2026 Junior League of Lancaster Deb Altman Award Submissions

Are you a high school student with an exceptional interest in voluntarism? If so, please apply for the Deborah P. Altman Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award.

Do you know a high school student with an exceptional interest in voluntarism? If so, please encourage them to apply for the Deborah P. Altman Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award.

The award is named for Deb Altman, a Past President of the Junior League of Lancaster, whose life exemplified a commitment to volunteering, a love of children, and service to the community. The winner will receive a $1,500.00 cash award and a $300.00 donation to a charity of their  choosing.

Key dates:

  • Friday, March 20, 2026: Completed applications must be submitted to this link.
  • Monday, March 30, 2026: Winner is notified via email.
  • Monday, April 13, 2026: Winner will be presented with award at JLL meeting.

Qualifications for Applying:

  • Any student who resides in Lancaster County and who has reached the age of 16, but is not older than 19, by January 31, 2026.
  • Has done volunteer work in Lancaster County
  • Is not the child of a Junior League member
  • Has at least a “C” average this year and the previous academic year

How Applications are Evaluated:

  • Quality volunteer work (as determined by the Grants Committee)
  • Documented volunteer work
  • Reference from an adult associated with student’s volunteer work
  • Documented scholastic record (verified by school counselor)
  • Properly completed application packet

COMMUNITY GRANTS APPLICATION 2025-2026

Our Mission: The Junior League of Lancaster is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

JLL’s Current Initiative: The JLL is a vibrant organization striving to make a positive and sustained impact in our community. The JLL Community Grant Program seeks to further the League’s current initiative of food and nutrition accessibility.  

Community Grant Focus: The 2025-2026 Community Grant Program will award grants to Lancaster non-profits whose current or proposed project addresses food and nutrition accessibility within our community. Preference will be given to applicants who articulate volunteer opportunities for JLL members.  

Grant Amount: Grants will be awarded in value of $400 – $2000 depending on project needs. 

Grant Requirements:    

  • Complete and submit a PDF with the following information: 
    • Organization’s name 
    • Organization’s address
    • Grant submitter’s name and contact information 
    • Organization’s non-profit status documentation 
    • Organization’s mission statement
    • Brief overview of the organization and evidence of its impact 
    • Detailed plan and timeline for implementing the funds for which grant monies will be used, keeping in mind that funds must be used within 12 months  
    • Detailed information about how the proposed project supports health, nutrition, and food insecurity   
    • Number of projects the organization plans to implement for 2026
    • Detailed plan for how JLL members may volunteer with the organization
  • Check in with JLL at the start of the program. 
  • Submit a report upon competition of the program.   
  • Acknowledge that funds must be used within 12 months. 
  • Acknowledge funds may not be used for any of the following: Debt reduction, operating deficits, interim or bridge funding, or endowment funding; private foundations; activities that are religious or political in nature; or fund drives, annual appeals, fundraising events, or general capital campaigns.

Timing: 

  • Grant applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
