We’re Focused on What Matters Most Right Now in Lancaster
At the Junior League of Lancaster, we live in the moment. To us, that means adjusting our focus according to our community’s most pressing needs. Our work is always evolving, and that keeps us on our toes, striving for progress, and preparing to take on whatever comes next.
Our current community goal of breaking the cycle of inequitable food access in our community. We aim to positively impact the health and wellness of our community by focusing on nutrition education, food security, and availability in an equitable and accessible way can be achieved by doing direct service efforts providing community members access to nutritious food, collaborative
efforts with local community organizations, providing volunteer support for events, and donations & drives to provide needed items throughout the community, including grocery cards and stocking pantries with food and healthy snacks and personal care items. So far we have focused on creating measurable reform within Lancaster County to combat the social, economic, and health implications of food and nutrition accessibility in our community. During the 2023-2024 League year, significant progress was made in direct service projects, collaborative efforts, donations, and new initiatives, all aimed at improving food accessibility and nutrition within the community, and are working to continue pop-up markets to provide immediate access to fresh fruits and vegetables, sustain the free pop-up produce initiative through the secured Aetna Health grant, enhance education and resource sharing through the newly developed subcommittee, and strengthen partnerships and community involvement to further eradicate hunger in Lancaster.
Our goal is to help Lancaster women develop civic leadership skills through the work they do, then put those talents to work in the communities that need it. Our current focus of Food & Nutrition Accessibility gives women opportunities to grow, while positively impacting the communities where they live and work.
